Watching the NationsNigeria
“The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.” Revelation 11:15, KJV
Why I am watching Nigeria
Nigeria is the most populous nation in Africa, and its influence reaches far beyond its borders. As I have travelled in prophetic and intercessory circles in Nigeria, I have heard a prophecy repeated several times. I have not confirmed who first gave it or when. It says that when the map of Africa is turned 90 degrees on its side, the continent resembles a pistol, with Nigeria near the trigger.
In that image, Nigeria is seen as a trigger for spiritual developments that could affect Africa, the wider world, and the work of God’s Kingdom. I share it as a call to watch and pray, while leaving its original source and any particular fulfillment open to discernment. I have included an illustration below to show the comparison and the roles it assigns to several other African nations.
My prayer is that Nigeria’s spiritual life and public leadership will be a source of blessing. I am watching the Church, the welfare of communities, the safety of vulnerable people, and the choices of leaders.
Prayer focus
Peace and security; integrity in leadership; protection for communities; unity in the Church; a life-giving witness across Africa.
Nigeria on the map
I have outlined Nigeria in red on this regional map so you can see its actual borders along the Gulf of Guinea.

The sideways Africa illustration
I have also included this illustration of the image I have heard described in Nigerian prayer circles. It places Nigeria near the imagined trigger and marks other nations in the comparison. These placements are symbolic; the regional map above shows Nigeria’s actual location and borders.
