Sowing While the Ground Is Ready

A farmer does not plow the ground and then forget why it was opened. The plow prepares the soil to receive seed. If the prepared ground is left unattended, it can become hard again.

I believe there is a lesson here for the church in 5787. We have spoken about prayer, discernment, and breaking up fallow ground. But once God shows us where to sow, we must respond. Preparation and sowing belong close together. We cannot pray indefinitely about an assignment while putting off the step God has made clear.

This is also why we must not rest on past victories. A breakthrough in prayer, a season of growth, or a successful outreach does not mean the work is finished. What God has opened needs faithful attention. People who are beginning to seek Him need someone to speak with them. Young believers need teaching and care. A community that has begun to trust the church needs us to keep showing up.

The seed may be smaller than we expected. It might be a conversation, a Bible study, an invitation to pray, a visit, or a promise kept. We may want to wait until we can do something larger. Yet the question is whether we will sow what God has placed in our hands while the ground is ready.

Apply this to your own life. Have you recognized a needed change in your finances but postponed making it? Has prayer softened a strained relationship, while you are still delaying the conversation? Has someone shown an openness to Jesus, but you have not followed up? Ask the Lord whether the ground is ready for a step you have been putting off. Then act with wisdom, love, and courage.

Prayer

Father, help us recognize the ground You have prepared. Deliver us from delay when You have made our next step clear. Give us the right seed, the right words, and the courage to sow faithfully. Help us care for what begins to grow. Amen.
